Out of the Box: The Eighth Doctor (Character Options Doctor Who)

A couple of weeks ago in the comments section of one of my MiniMates posts, a conversation about Doctor Who figures popped up, which reminded me that despite my having sworn off buying new playline figures for the first quarter of the year, I was weak and actually already had one on the way (ordered along with the statue I shared a few days ago).  Hey, at least I lasted through January, right? ;)

In any case, because I'm that person who liked the Doctor Who Audio Adventures better than the TV series (classic or revival), I of course had to buy the newest figure of the Eighth Doctor from his "Night of the Doctor" TV appearance since a couple of the included lines meant the audio adventures are now canon for the TV series (which I actually stopped following, but hey).

Since I've posted about Character Options figures in the past (and this one is in line with those - solid amount of detail, 13 points of articulation, accompanied by a couple of well-detailed small accessories) it's all photos from here.

  1. Hi JSarie! It is nice to find someone else who enjoys audio 'series'. I find it really good for one's imagination.
Bak to the important part. This eight Doctor figure is really well made. I can totally understand why you purchased him despite your 'oath'. All the details seem really neat. I like the little dance a lot.
    Keep having fun!

    1. Another fan of the audio stories! I think the settings one imagines are always bigger and better than the ones they can show on TV, it's true. :)

      And thanks! :)

  2. I was trying to think who the 8th Doctor had been and remembered it was one of the McGann brothers, Paul wasn't it? Anyway, it's a very good likeness and looks very well made. I was a Dr Who fan as a child but now I only see snatches of it as my hubbie watches it, he likes it. I never have heard any of the audio series.

    1. Yup, the 8th Doctor was Paul McGann. It's funny - I almost wrote that the likeness is good enough that you know it's one of the McGann brothers, just not necessarily so good that you could narrow it down to one if you didn't know who played him. LOL! ;)

  3. Hi JS,
I'd love to see all your Doctor's in a row. :)

This one looks great, love the detailed folds at the back of his coat. He looks like he's doing a jig in the last photo. :)
    Hugs,

    1. Once the other half of them are out of storage I'll definitely be taking a group photo with them all (and I'll have to see if I can get them all to dance a matching merry jig)! ;)

  4. Okay, wow, that figure is pretty neat. I was just thinking when I saw that first photo how much he actually looked like the actor that played the Eighth Doctor. I also love that he can do a little jig and remain standing. I should check if my figures can do anything like that.

He's really painted too. I am only missing the Ninth Doctor in my collection. Did you ever get the bobble heads? I've only got Ten and Eleven but the bobble heads are pretty neat, amusing really.

    1. If you check and find that your figures can do the same I think that calls for a dance off! ;)

I don't have any of the bobble heads (although I confess I've been tempted) - they look like they'd be fun to have on a shelf though. How do the bodies look out of the box?

    2. I still haven't got around to check those figures. I might try and do that this afternoon if I remember.

The bodies for the bobble heads are actually quite proportionate to the heads. I have a photo here of the 11th doctor. He is a bobble head. You can see the head is slightly bigger but not so insanely big that it would look like Pullips.

    3. Huh, I wouldn't have guessed that their heads would be so well-proportioned compared to their bodies. I'm going to have to take more of a look at them!

  5. He looks really good! I lost track of all the Doctors, but I loved that show when I was young. This Doctor is a great dancer :-)!

  6. I am kind of jealous, I don't hear well enough to listen to the Audio Adventures.

    1. Hmm, I wonder if there are transcripts out there? Actually, thinking about it, I'm surprised they haven't released novelizations of more of them (I think one or two are out there already, but clearly not enough). I bet there's a decent market for that.

  7. I much prefer the written word to the spoken word, so I don't think I would enjoy audio stories. But my husband and daughter are big fans of the Doctor Who modern television series. Your figure looks nicely made. I'm sure he'll enjoy hanging out with your other figures.

    1. He'll have to teach the others to dance! ;)

I used to prefer books too - I got into audio adventures the same year I was doing several months work of home renovations and found that I really enjoyed them as tales to work to. There are a couple of voice actors in there who if I hear now, I imagine I'm back painting the trim in the kitchen of that house!

  8. I love audio books! I have wanted to get into the modern Doctor. Who stories as I have heard so much about them from other bloggers as well. Maybe I will try the audio stories! This figure looks great...I don't know any of the characters, but I love his articulation. How tall is he?

    1. The audio stories are such fun - imagine an audio book but with sound effects and multiple narrators! :)

This line of figures is 5"/12.5cm.
